Tribal Usher Canvas Painting

Before there were birthday parties, there were the coming of age ceremony guided by ancient African leaders called Tribal Ushers. Unlike birthday party celebrations which happen every year, the coming of age ceremonies led by the Tribal Ushers happens once - it marks crossing the threshold from childhood into adulthood for boys. The Tribal Ushers mark the stage where the boys are secluded, after being circumcised, for a period of time and later reenter society, the official rite of passage that says you are now a man. These practices were historically associated with the Luvale, Chokwe, and Mound tribes.
